Updating multiple records

Dear all,

one of our smartphones used for data capturing had an issue with the GPS. So many longitude values have been moved 168° eastwards. Now it is Bering Sea instead of North Sea.

Is there a way to recalculate the longitude with one command like e. g. “longitude = longitude - 168 where longitude > 100”?

Thanks in advance and many greetings from the North Sea

Cheers,
Michael

Hi Michael,

I think your best bet is going to be to export the bad data to Excel and fix it there.

Hi Justin,

thank you. That is a quick and easy way to do it. I’ve selected the sightings in the view and exported them to Excel. After correcting the longitudes I’ve deleted the sightings in the CyberTracker application and pasted the corrected records as new sightings. That worked fine.

But there is one thing that would not work this way. If there are pictures stored in Media2 related to the exported and then deleted sightings, they will not be related to the reimported records due to new UniqueIds (or are they deleted with the sightings?). So, I would first have to check if there are related pictures and export them too and after reimporting the sightings import the pictures (for the corresponding sightings, hopefully). This wasn’t the case this time but could happen next time.

So, it would be great to have a possibility to do such operations (mass editing for selected sightings) directly in the CyberTracker application in (remote ;-)) future.

Cheers,

Michael

Hi Justin,

there is another issue when I paste the corrected data from Excel into the view. Values of one column are ignored and are missing in the view. It is the name of the area where the sightings have been made. Originally, they are chosen from an element list. Since these values are not changed in Excel by me, I wonder what happens.

Any idea?

Cheers,
Michael

Hi Michael,

Back and forth from Excel is imperfect since the data representations are different. I would check the column properties – some column types cannot be pasted.

Hi Justin,

the values are text. Since other text columns are pasted correctly, the problem seems to be that the column that is not pasted is related to an element list. Is there a restriction that colums related to element lists can’t be filled by pasting from Excel?

Michael

Hi Michael,

This works for me. Could you check that the column has its “Output as” set to “Name”?

Cheers,

-Justin

Hi Justin,

yes, the “Output as” was set to “Name” wich seems to be the default when I’ve created the view. Now I’ve changed it to “value” and the column is filled with “Paste New Sightings From Excel”. Thank you for this hint. I will check all other views and change the “Output as” if necessary.

Cheers,
Michael
