Timer-track stopped recording in the middle of a trail

Hi,

I just discovered something odd after uploading the animal trail I recorded today: while in the middle of a trail, the timer-track (set to record a GPS fix every 1 second) seems to have stopped working at a point where a recorded a note. Before that point, the trail appears “wobbly” (as it should due to the 1s fixes) on the map of the CyberTracker Classic software. After that point, the trail is just a straight line between recorded notes (or other points). I have been using that trailing app for 3 years without any problem of that sort. Any idea what happened? and if by chance the missing timer-track points might be “hidden” somewhere (NB: no files in the orphans)?

Thanks!

Marie

Hi Marie,

If you send me a bug report I can take a look at it and see what’s up.

Any chance you took an update during your trip?

Cheers,
-Justin

What is happened, if the GPS Signal is turning very bad during the trip? I have Mobilphone with metal cover and I’m afraid I’ve had an experience similar to Marie’s. Some part of the track is there and the other is line between the sightings.

Hi Justin, Holger,

Thank you for your reply and insights.

Justin, thanks, I have sent you a bug report by email. No I don’t think the phone did any update during the trail as I rarely have signal in the bush.

Holger, I’m also recording my trails with a handheld GPS as a back up (in case of any bugs with the phone/CyberTracker app). Although recording with a lower GPS frequency, fix recording was set as “most often” and the GPS trail showed some more detailed movement at least (so not straight lines as CyberTracker). So the general GPS signal likely didn’t turn bad during the trail, unless the phone itself had a bug that the handheld GPS didn’t have.

Thanks!

Marie
