Hi All, In CyberTracker classic, is there a way to backup data to the SD card in a format that is easily recoverably? CyberTracker use to backup the data to the SD card as a CTX file at the interval set in Database Properties under Transfer. It appears this no longer is the case.
Cheers, Graeme
Hi Graeme,
This came up recently in the context of someone being out of network connection for an extended period. They wanted to be able to connect an external USB drive and have the data copied there on demand.
Android has changed policy so many times over the years, that being able to find and write to an SD card reliably is the problem. At the same time, device and memory reliability has increased dramatically. Nowadays you can almost always recover data from a damaged device.
If you are worried about losing the device, then we need a way to routinely export the data. Many new devices do not have external SD card support. Which one are you using?
Thanks!
Thanks Justin.
We are wanting to backup to a non volatile location (SD card) in the event of a device or memory failure. A number of years ago we had a couple of phones fail resulting in the loss of data which has tarnished our trust in devices. I can recover data from the cybertrackerdata folder on the SD card but was looking for a method our non tech people could manage.
Cheers, Graeme
Hi Graeme,
Which devices do you use that have SD card slots?
Would you prefer a separate backup USB memory stick or are you looking for it to be just double written on the device?
Cheers,
-Justin
Hi Justin,
We are using Samsung A series phones that have internal SD cards.
We would be happy for it to be double written to the SD card.
I note that if the Transfer upload protocol is set to Backup(CTX), when exported, a CTX file is written to the cybertrackerdata folder on the SD card.
